THE BIG PICTURE

When San Mateo County developed a Quality Rating and Improvement System, they enlisted the help of VIVA Strategy & Communications to ensure their efforts were underpinned by strong branding and strategic communications.

THE BACKGROUND

San Mateo County’s early learning system is a collaborative effort composed of San Mateo County Office of Education, First 5 San Mateo, and 4Cs of San Mateo County. They sought VIVA’s expertise to align their QRIS communications with other local early learning initiatives and clearly communicate QRIS opportunities to educators, families, and other key stakeholders.

THE NITTY-GRITTY

VIVA Strategy & Communications facilitated a communications planning process with San Mateo County, which included convening focus groups, interviewing stakeholders, and conducting an in-depth landscape analysis. The outcome of the communications planning process was the development of a QRIS name, brand identity, logo, communications plan, rating symbol and rating communications strategy.

Once a brand identity and strategic communications plan were in place, VIVA worked with Quality Counts San Mateo County to execute it’s outreach through a custom-built website; an educator-focused social media community; educator welcome kits; and a suite of communications materials for educators, partners, and parents.
