THE BIG PICTURE

VIVA developed a comprehensive communications plan and local brand identity, establishing a communications infrastructure to support the launch of San Bernardino County’s new quality rating and improvement system (QRIS).

THE BACKGROUND

Working with VIVA, First 5 San Bernardino County conducted a QRIS strategic planning process, which resulted in a QRIS strategic plan that identified communications as an integral and critical component of their new system. Because their QRIS was newly developed, San Bernardino needed a communications plan and brand identity to provide a blueprint for recruitment, outreach, and sustained marketing and communications.

THE NITTY-GRITTY

VIVA conducted a communications planning process that laid a foundation for QRIS communications and outreach. The planning process involved convening and gathering information from community partners and QRIS Consortium, facilitating focus groups in English and Spanish with parents and providers in the county, and conducting extensive research on San Bernardino County and the types of early care and education information currently available to parents. The resulting plan laid out a phased, multi-year approach to strategic communications and outreach.

VIVA’s brand identity process involved an audit of the local early learning landscape, analysis of priorities that emerged from the QRIS strategic plan, and planning sessions with the QRIS communications workgroup. As a result of this process, VIVA developed a brand strategy, name, and logo for the QRIS that tapped into San Bernardino’s unique landscape and resonated with their partners and broader community.

VIVA also developed foundational communications tools to support San Bernardino’s QRIS launch and recruitment, including a QRIS website, fact sheets, and a presentation and messages to support outreach.
